Fashion News: Raf Simons - Dior's New Creative Director!

Dior finds its Head Couturier

After more than a year of searching for the Creative Director, Dior & LVMH’s head honcho, Bernard Arnault, finally put the hunt, speculation & rumors to rest on 9th April when the label’s spokesperson named Raf Simon, a Belgian designer, as their next couturier. So what does the job description of the Head Couturier of Dior look like? Well he is only the Artistic Director of Haute Couture, Women’s Ready-to-wear & Accessories collections, as well as responsible for the Advertising.

After having headed the designer label Jil Sander as the Creative Director, Raf is Dior’s sixth couturier (seventh if you count Bill Gaytten, who was heading the label as a make-shift arrangement). Nonetheless, Raf Simons has quite a few eyes watching him & waiting to critique his first collection for the label at the Paris Couture Week in July.

But before we think about the future of the label under the leadership of the new Creative Director, let’s look at the glorious & at times tumultuous history of the Creative Directors that preceded him in this Fashion power house - Dior.

So while we await the spectacular merger between Raf’s minimalistic yet romantic style & Dior’s feminine history, let another round of speculations begin of what awaits us this July!

PS: The Creative Directors were not really quoted as saying that!

Spring/Summer 2012 Trend Watch: Sheer

Sheer Genius!

So we’re back with our trend watch this season! And there is so much to choose from, so many style-sensibilities pick & choose from. This season you can be a true chameleon, dressing as a lady one day & like a popstar the next...all in the name of fashion!

And what style piques my interest today? Sheer shirts!
I am absolutely in love with these flirty shirts and my wardrobe is stacked with quite a few of them...and you will get to see them all one post at a time! And I am not the only one in love with this trend of sheer tops & shirts, this easy, breezy style is just perfect for the Summer. No hassles, helps you beat the heat & you still look chic at the end of a work day - what more could a working girl want?!

Here’s me donning one of my many sheer shirts, in my favorite colors!

Pastels are also pretty big this season, but if I were to ever maintain a list of my favorite colors, pastels would probably take the top 5 spots and then some more!

But I digress! Today’s edition of InStyleopedia is about being in style this Spring/Summer season with the “sheers”.

So be conservative by teeming your sheer shirt with dress pants, or tuck in that shirt in a fitted pencil skirt, this shirt is sure to get you a few compliments at work or that interview! Or be casual & team the shirt with ripped jeans for a laidback feel, teem it with a skirt if you feel a little flirty (maybe something like the look I went for), and accessorize accessorize accessorize!

The sky’s the limit on how to style up this shirt! I was feeling a little flirty, how did you style yours?

Spring/Summer 2012 Trend Watch: Lace

A Vintage Lace Romance

Don’t you just love lace? What’s not love about it right? So feminine, so delicate, and there is something so ethereal, almost Goddess-like about it. And cream lace is just the perfect color & look I opt for.

So when I noticed that lace is ruling the trend forecasts & runways for Spring/Summer, you cannot imagine how happy I was...finally those lace tops & pieces hidden at the back of my closet (yes! I admit I am a hoarder, as much as my sister would want to reform me!), could see the light of the day, and I, with a quick wag of the finger & a curt “I told you so”, could turn the conversation with my sister around from my hoarding to me knowing my style!

One of the “treasures” I dug out has made me fall in love with it all over again (hence the post title!), and I would love to show off my new found old flame!

I teamed this gorge lace top with a blush cami, just to add some color! But if you feel more risqué, which I am guessing you would be feeling, team your lace tops with a brighter camisole or colored denims to add more pop. While I prefer to keep the lace as the focal, you could maybe wear it as an accent to your outfit!

Now you know how I love my lace, I’d love to see how you wore your lace pieces!

Polyvore Friday!

Day  & NIGHT!
When you work in Fashion PR, being ready for a last minute event or dinner is a must! Working hard & playing harder is after all a practice we love to preach! So what do you do when you have a full day of work lined up and a dinner/party to attend to after work?!

The best way to transform office-wear to an ensemble suited for that Dinner Party, without carrying an extra change of clothes, is to wear something as simple yet chic & stylish as a black dress! It’s conservative enough for work & stylish for the night! Madame Chanel did know her fashion & trusting her style mantras would keep you far FAR away from a fashion faux pas.

Just add a blazer & soft make-up for work, and quickly let go off that blazer before that party & add a touch of color with a red or hot pink lipstick and a smart, stylish clutch! You could add a dash of jewelry too with a statement necklace like the one above!

So you ready to rock the night & the office with your style?!

My Style: My Polyvore!

Noon in Paris!

A few days ago I started using Polyvore (I know I know, I'm a late bloomer!), and I agree! It is so much fun. NOW I know what the fuss about Polyvore has been all about! It’s the perfect tool to practice your styling skills for all budding stylists & the perfect dress-up game for all those young princesses!

And I loved it so much, that I am decided on dedicating one post to it every week! So keep an eye out for the trends I'll be watching for & re-creating - thanks to Polyvore! So after much stumbling around & checking out other Polyvore sets, I created my first one today! And where better to share it?!

Why I named it Noon in Paris? It’s an ode to the movie ‘Midnight in Paris’ and it highlights all great things about the city of love - the chic, the style and Elie Saab!

Isn’t this just the perfect “Brunch with the Girls” outfit?

And I loved it so much, that I am decided on dedicating one post to it every week! So keep an eye out for the trends I'll be watching for & re-creating - thanks to Polyvore!
